Congratulations to Las Vegas!! Raised over 2000 lbs of Pet Food!!

B&D’s HOUNDS FOR HELPING HANDS RAISES OVER 2000 LBS OF PET FOOD!

This week-end on 12/4/10 a monumental groundbreaking event took place in the Las Vegas Valley. Bully Breed Couture Clothing and Accessory Company Bo & DeeMo co-sponsored a pet food drive that took place at Bogart’s Bone Appetit located on W. Tropicana and Fort Apache. On hand to lend their Celebratory status was the legendary “Pitbull of Comedy” Bobby Slayton and the self proclaimed “Princess of Porn” Sunset Thomas. Over 2000 lbs. of cat, dog food and crates and harnesses and treats were donated. The food and items raised will be distributed by Helping Hands of Vegas Valley who specializes in helping Low Income Seniors with food, driving to appointments, and more! Interesting pairings indeed but it just shows what kindred spirits who believe in the power of pets can do when they bond together!

The pet food drive had always been a dream of Bo & DeeMo and this year was the year to make it happen. Co-Owner Dee Mounts “Throughout the event donators commented on what a special event this was! They also said “Thank you” for doing such a great thing and bringing awareness and help to our seniors. Senior Citizens paved the way for our generations, feeding their pets is an honor and a small but intimate way to let them know we care.  Pets are members of our families and an important part of keeping us focused, loved and healthy.  You can't have a successful pet food drive without friends!  We asked our friends to support this cause and they came through! New friends and established ones came, most by the car loads! We LOVE our Las Vegans!”

Utilizing the well known raspy and distinct voice of Bobby Slayton the PSA’S announcing the drive ran on local stations including Kemp Broadcasting Stations KVEG 97.5 FM, KVGQ 106.9 FM and KMZQ 670 AM and CBS Radio Stations KLUC 98.5 FM, KXTE 107.5 FM, KXNT 840 AM and KMXB 94.1 FM and Highway Radio stations FM98/99-Highway Country-The Drive.  Bobby promised “I will personally be on hand to meet and greet all of you, but don’t let that stop you!!” It did not stop anyone from donating! One truck alone pulled up and the owner’s unloaded and donated 575 lbs. of dog food! This was Mila who won the “Ultimate Grand Prize” which was a round of golf for four including balls and a cart at prestigious Canyon Gate Country Club. She also won the $50 Gift Certificate from Bo & DeeMo.

Even in these challenging times the generosity of people who donated was unbelievable.  Dana Serrata – Executive Director of Helping Hands of Vegas Valley was in one word AMAZED!   “We are so appreciative of Bo and DeeMo and Bogart’s Bone Appetit and all the people in our community that came out and donated!  The pet food collected will enable us to serve not just our seniors, but also their furry friends – keeping both healthy and happy.”

Many people mentioned seeing Dee and Dana interviewed live on Channel 13 by Reporter Jessica Lovell and they were touched and came on by to donate!

Bobby Slayton did not growl at anyone, well not really and he said, “Glad that I could help out! I would like to thank my friend Sunset Thomas for stopping by and helping collect the food. A nice group of people and a great cause!” Sunset Thomas also commented that "I was grateful to be part of a good cause for my friends with paws!"

Bogart’s Bone Appetit stepped up to the challenge by not only providing as drop off points they also personally donated over 500 LBS of food from their shelves to provide help during the holidays to the seniors and their pets!

The B&D’s Hounds for Helping Hands also generated some food donations but remember HHOVV can always use help filling their pantry!

MEDIA and Animal Supporters ALERT!! Updated information on the Senior Pet Food Drive!!

THE FIRST ANNUAL B&D SENIOR PET FOOD DRIVE (Hounds for Helping Hands) HAS STARTED!!

Bo & DeeMo has partnered with well known local charity Helping Hands of Vegas Valley in order to help low income seniors provide food for their best friends for the holidays! Some low-income seniors have a challenging time feeding themselves not to mention their four legged pals. This includes dogs and cats.

A direct quote from Dana who deals firsthand with the seniors: “Many of our low-income seniors live alone with pets as their only family,” said Dana Serrata, executive director of Helping Hands of Vegas Valley. “Our clients are unable to afford food for themselves, much less their pets. They don’t have the resources to feed their pets properly, so they share their own meals.”

You can help alleviate some of their hardship during the holidays. What we are asking for are 2-5 or 6-8 lb. bags of either cat food or dog food for Christmas food donations which will be packed up and will be delivered on December 18th. We are delighted and grateful that nationally well known Comedian/Actor Bobby Slayton and Author/Adult Actress Sunset Thomas will be on hand to sign autographs and greet fans. Food donations will be accepted at all three Bogart’s Bone Appetit starting now. There will be an ultimate prize for the individual who drops off the most food on December 4th. The prize consists of a round of golf for four (including cart and balls) at the prestigious Canyon Gate Country Club!

Las Vegas is a community that gives back! We currently have several wonderful food/toy drives that take place annually. However it is our goal to draw attention to a group that is sometimes overlooked. Several low income Senior citizens rely upon Helping Hands of Vegas Valley to deliver their food and to take them to important Dr’.s appointments etc. We are hoping to help these seniors feed their pets who are their companions during the holidays and all year! When you are alone in the world and you have a companion such as your dog or cat and you have a specific amount of food each month ultimately some of the food will be shared and you have seniors not receiving enough nutrition. Of course this affects the nutrition for their pets also.

The event will take place on December 4th at the Main location at Bogart’s Bone Appetit in the parking lot. From 1 PM -4 PM.

Bogart’s Bone Appetit has three locations throughout Las Vegas that you can stop by and drop off your donations today!

Really?? This is the letter that we received from Sen. Reid regarding the Wild Horse Roundups! FORM LETTER

Humm nowhere in this letter does it address the question of how the horses are being shipped off to Mexico and Canada and sold! Pretty much a form letter!! And they did not even spell my last name right!!
Dear Mrs. Mccabe-Joy:

Thank you for contacting me. I appreciate hearing from you.

Nevada is home to the majority of the wild horses in our country.  As a result, the care and management of these animals is a key issue for many people around our great state.  I have been critical of the Bureau of Land Management's wild horse and burro program for many years.  I have spoken directly with the Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, about this problem and he shares my concerns.
As you may know, the Department of Interior recently came forward with a proposal to overhaul our nation's wild horse and burro program.  I welcome these ideas and the related proposals brought forward by wild horse advocates from around Nevada and the country.  With over 30,000 horses on the range and more than 30,000 horses in long-term holding facilities, change is badly needed.
Based on the information that the Department has released to date, we know that the Secretary is committed to keeping a large and sustainable horse population on our public lands, ensuring that Nevadans will get to enjoy these animals for generations to come.  His proposal also provides improved options for the long-term care of horses that are removed from our rangelands, and makes some long-sought changes to the wild horse adoption program.
I am happy to share with you that on September 24, 2009, I led the passage of a resolution in support of the Inaugural National Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Day which was held on September 26th. Over 18,000 horses await adoption.  I hope you will educate your friends and others about this important program.  These amazing animals need good homes and can be trained to work stock, to ride trails in the backcountry, and even to serve our communities as police horses.   In addition, the horses and burros can enrich the lives of our communities and those who adopt them.

In the end, our goal must be to protect our nation's wild horses while improving the health of our rangelands and our vital wildlife habitat through more consistent and effective management.  You can be assured that I will remain engaged in these conversations and will work to protect our state's critical natural resources.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. For more information about my work for Nevada, my role in the United States Senate Leadership, or to subscribe to regular e-mail updates on the issues that interest you, please visit my Web site at http://reid.senate.gov. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

My best wishes to you.

Sincerely,
A
HARRY REID

DMZ Says...are you aware that our Wild Horses are being killed??

Wild horses are also slaughtered, since a 2004 backdoor Congressional rider engineered by then-Senator Conrad Burns (R–MT) gutted the protections afforded by the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971. Now, the Bureau of Land Management, the agency responsible for protecting wild horses, must sell "excess" horses (those 10 years of age or older, or not adopted after three tries) at auction. As a result, wild horses are being removed from their range at an alarming rate with some being sold for slaughter.

Check out this great book for children!! Lola Belle says..SAFETY FIRST!!

Clarksville, AR Children under the age of five are at much greater risk of fire related deaths than others. The group accounts for 11% of fire-related deaths~ the highest population for any age group.

Inspired by her work as a firefighter and by her four-legged friend, Sparkles, author Firefighter Dayna Hilton created the Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog Coloring Book.

For almost a decade, Firefighter Dayna and her fire safety dogs have made it their mission to save lives, reduce injuries and decrease property loss from fire. In recent years, she and her fire safety dogs have concentrated their fire safety efforts on pre-schoolers, kindergartners, first graders and their caregivers.

This 28-page coloring book is a perfect stand-alone coloring book or companion piece to Sparkles Goes to Boston and Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog. Children learn how Sparkles achieves her dream of becoming a real fire safety dog as well as learning valuable fire safety tips to help keep them and their families fire safe.

Written by Firefighter Dayna Hilton, with artwork by Eileen Edwards, children will delight in reading Sparkles’ story.
